My approach to equestrian photography is to shoot at a show or event rather than "staged glamour".  It is as much about the emotion, capturing the highs and lows, those split seconds, which make memories that will last a lifetime.  But it's not easy.  Backgrounds are at best cluttered, often messy, the photographer has little control over where they can locate themselves, and getting both horse and rider/handler in a good position is always challenging.

In 2021 I purchased a foal, Ebony (aka Unique T.I.A.). Registered with the Hanovarian Horse Society with some outstanding bloodlines (dressage) she is developing into a beautiful mare.
In 2022 she was awarded"Gold" in her age/discipline group by British Breeding Futurity and in 2023 she went to a number of local shows.   The purpose of these outings was to give her a good experience of the wider world; not chasing rosettes.  Further such outings are planned for 2024.
None of this would have been possible without Kentford Farm Stud and in the photographs (with one exception!) she is presented/shown by Kentford's Head Girl.

2024 and Ebony and was out and about again competing at several local shows. She swept the board in all the classes entered.  The highlight was, in sweltering August heat, Ebony winning her class (in-hand competition horse 3 years old and under) at the New Forest and Hampshire County show before taking the reserve championship in this category.
But the best prize of all she behave impeccably at all the shows.

However, Ebony has some big boots to fill.  My daughter's pony, Pierre, (aka Glynebourne Black Pepper) - a Welsh part-bred and real character - not your typical dressage pony.
Over the last ten+ years when studies have allowed they have worked their way up the levels competing at British Dressage/Pet Plan competitions from Prelim to Medium enjoying success along the way.  The photographs below were all taken in 2023.
